5 Ways To Stop Brassy Blonde’s

November 29, 2016

Well summer’s here and you know what that means? It’s blonding season. The salon’s a buzz with foils crinkling as we deliver sun kissed locks to the babes of Perth. Just making our community beautiful. Your welcome Perth.

So i thought it was an appropriate time to share:

5 Ways To Stop Brassy Blonde’s

5 Ways To Stop Brassy Blonde's

  1. Before i launch into my favourite products let me start by saying if your hair wasn’t lightened “enough” to start with, no product in the world will help you. A nice clean blonde starts in the salon. MOST blondes will go brassy regardless in time but if you leave the salon looking brassy, this will be hard to beat at home.
  2. Wella SP Silver Blond Shampoo – This is one of my favourites and it kicks my brassy tones in the butt. I alternate it with my regular protein based shampoo so i’m getting as much nourishment as possible whilst toning. This is awesome for maintaining an ice-cool blonde. This can build up over time so you might only need it as a “sometimes” shampoo.
  3. EVO FABULOSO Conditioner – Another fave of mine and this one is awesome because you can have it specifically made to suit your own personal colour e.g – if you want more of a purple/ash reflect or a pink/ash reflect we can make it & to the intensity & strength you desire. It also comes with a Volume or Repair option.
  4. Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Wash – This stuff smells absolutely sensational. Works fab as a silver shampoo too of course but this one wins hands down for the best smell. I find the Kevin Murphy products leave your hair feeling quite nourished as well.
  5. Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Rinse – I find this one a little stronger than the shampoo and when left on for 5 – 10 mins acts as an excellent “at home” icy blonde toner.

5 Ways To Stop Brassy Blonde's

We Have Cruelty Free Hair Products Perth

We Have Cruelty Free Hair Products Perth

We Have Cruelty Free Hair Products Perth

I’m a “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” kinda girl, I haven’t introduced an entire new product range into my salon in 5 years, my team are trained to never book new sales reps in with me. Yeah i probably sound like an A-Hole but i like what i like.

Needless to say i was pretty peeved when the new apprentice unknowingly booked the Kevin Murphy rep in with me. I resisted the urge to cancel and set about politely smiling, nodding and spending the next 6 months dodging her calls.

I listened, i examined the packaging and because I’m polite i sniffed the products. And that’s when they got me, “this sh!t smells AMAZING!” Sparks flew, i was in.

With my curiosity engaged i started actually listening & here’s what i learnt about Kevin Murphy hair products which is actually pretty cool:

  • the ingredients are all AUSTRALIAN
  • the packaging is made from RECYCLED MATERIALS
  • ALL the products are PETA approved, cruelty free
  • KM provides extensive training and education to all stockists not only in product knowledge but styling too.

We Have Cruelty Free Hair Products Perth

So instead of tossing my free samples on the “free sample heap” i took them home and did something i never do, i tried something new (gasp) & so the Kevin Murphy love affair begins.

So for those of you who like the “tech talk”, here’s what Kevin Murphy has to say about Kevin Murphy:

“When searching the world for our ingredients, KEVIN MURPHY looked for companies that use micro cultivation, organic growing practices, or ecologically sound wild harvesting techniques to ensure the KM range is of the very highest natural quality. Vitamins & amino acids repair the outer surface of the hair, thickening the hair and reducing the formation of split ends. Moisturisers from Mango Butter and Murumuru butter smooth the cuticles and soften the hair. Extracts from the Peruvian Bark Baobab, Bamboo and Orange Blossom infuse the hair with weightless moisture. Antioxidants from Kakadu Plum, Orchid, Lotus Flower and Desert Lime reduce breakage and repair chemical damage naturally. All KM hair products are sulphate free, paraben free and cruelty free.”

So if you’re looking for amazing hair products that make a difference, come see us!

Dear Dyson, It’s about your silent hairdryer……

August 22, 2016

Dear Dyson,

It’s about your silent hairdryer. I know you’re all sitting around feeling quite chuffed with yourselves and you should, honestly you should. I mean how else was i going to blow dry my hair while the kids were asleep? You’ve truly solved one of the first world’s biggest problems. Definitely worth celebrating…totes.

Dear Dyson, It's about your silent hairdryer

check it out? impressive or what?

However………….

I haven’t yet got round to actually buying your fancy new hair dryer. No my husband doesn’t seem to think $700 on a new hair dryer is just. He’s a real prick like that.

But i do have to hand it to you, it certainly sparked some serious conversation in my salon. Yep everyone was impressed. Although if you’re open to suggestions we thought your time might have been better spent inventing cordless hair dryers. Yeah those cords are a real bitch, us hairdressers are always tripping over them. So annoying.

While i’m offering feedback i feel it necessary to outline a potential problem you may have overlooked. There’s no way any self respecting hairdresser is going to buy one of these. You see we actually like the noise hair dryers make. And here’s why:

  • it drowns out trash talk
  • allows exchanging of vital top secret information between client & hairdresser without anyone eaves dropping
  • muffles the sound of farts whilst blow drying

This aside i would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the huge success of your new silent hair dryer.

Please do not hesitate to call me when you release the cordless one.

Dear Dyson, It's about your silent hairdryer

Kind Regards

Elsa

How to stop your hair colour fading

How to stop your hair colour fading

Pink, purple, blue & grey. Crazy colours are still the trend & we’ve been working our little butts off trying to meet the unrealistic standards of photo shopped hair snaps. #nofilter #liarliar #thestruggleisreal.

Whaaaattttttt? Hair pics get photo shopped? YES they do. A LOT. And as i’ve said before it’s a hairdressers worst nightmare. So here is an image by us, not photo shopped and because i’m feeling generous, i’m going to tell you our secret, but first………

How to stop your hair colour fading

The problem with these crazy colours is:

a. Getting them to stick.

b. Getting them to last.

c. Making them look like the photo shopped colour in your Pinterest reference photo.

Why?

Because 98.6% of the time the hair has to be blonde, usually white blonde, to get these colours to look any good & for  95.8% of you this means bleaching the bageebies out of your hair.

This might come as a shock to you all but bleach blonde hair lacks a little life, it has no colour pigment what so ever & very little left for soft pastel tones to grab onto. Hence they wash out very quickly.

Tired of your salon colour fading? I have the secret:

The past year has seen a flood of pretty pastels and sexy silver hair products into the market from every brand in existence. In efforts to keep up with the fun colour trend i’m certain we’ve tried them all, trying to find the “winning formula” to make the fun colours last

And here is what we’ve discovered, our dirty secret to stop your salon colours fading:

EVO Fabuloso colour conditioner:
  • We personally mix each individual conditioner to match YOUR colour.
  • Tops up your colour in between salon visits.
  • You take it home and use it in replacement of your usual conditioner.
  • Leave on for 5-20mins.
  • Comes in both volume & repair options.
  • Retails for approx $39.95
  • Amazing for purples, pinks, blues, greens and all fashion colours.

Tired of your salon colour fading? I have the secret

This is seriously the best product EVER, i’m not even kidding and an absolute must have if you want to prevent your salon colour you paid the big bucks for from fading out so quick.

And in case your not convinced, i’ll leave you with another non photo shopped pic where we used a grey EVO Fabuloso conditioner to colour these blonde extensions.

Find Out Which Hair Oil Hairdresser’s Really Love The Most

June 23, 2016

The inception of the infamous Moroccan Oil seemed to be an overnight success in the land of beauty products and was quickly met with a flood of rival competition.

Maybe the competition was already there, who knows. Either way the marketing genius behind Moroccan Oil sparked a war amongst oils as Argan Oil became like a liquid gold we all just had to have.

Like all fads this one faded out as new ones took it’s place but a few key players stood the test of time and one in particular has won a permanent position on our shelves.

Which Hair Oil Hairdresser’s Really Love The Most?

Which Hair Oil Hairdresser's Really Love The Most

The winner (as voted by me) is…….

Wella SP Luxe Oil

Which Hair Oil Hairdresser's Really Love The Most

Our fave products rely on what is relevant to our everyday clients. Here in sunny Perth aside from  busy lives and a harsh climate, the water that comes out of our shower head isn’t exactly Mount Franklin (more like public swimming pool water). So we love this product because:

a. It can be used on wet or dry hair, so less products =  less bathroom clutter, yay.

b. It has a HEAT PROTECTOR element in it so again 2 products in 1

c. Luxe Oil is a Moisture AND Protein product so nourishes dry hair and repairs damaged hair. Now it’s like a 3 in 1 product.

d. This stuff smells like jelly beans!

For the geeks who need to know what the bottle says:

SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL LUXE OIL uses a reconstructive Transform Technology that benefits hair inside and out, while protecting it from damage:

 • Hair texture feels up to 10 times smoother after just one application.

 • 3 times more Keratin Protection, providing instant and long-lasting, smoothness.

• Leaves hair looking healthy and naturally beautiful.

 • Hair is easy to style every day

Find the right hair transformation for you, with SP LUXE OIL’s 8 amazing benefits.

For wet hair:

 1. SMOOTHENS: reconstructs and transforms hair texture instantly. After shampooing, apply 2–3 drops of SP LUXE OIL through the mid-lengths and ends. Hair quality feels inst

stantly improved after just one application.

2. SOFTENS: protects Keratin and provides long-lasting smoothness. Use SP LUXE OIL regularly and get up to 6 times smoother hair after 24 hours.

 3. PROTECTS: creates an invisible hair shield. Work a small amount of SP LUXE OIL through damp hair, use a wide toothed comb to gently remove any tangles, and dry hair.

 4. DEFINES: provides definition for curls and fine hair. Before drying, apply 2–3 drops to the hair and work outwards to define hair as desired, whether for curls or fine hair.

For dry hair:

5. MOISTURIZES: as a pre-shampoo treatment. Divide the hair into sections, and apply 2–3 drops of SP LUXE OIL to the hair and scalp. Massage and leave in for 5–10 minutes. Comb through and then follow with SP Shampoo and Conditioner.

 6. SMOOTHES: provides post-blowdry protection. To control dry, frizzy hair, apply a few drops of SP LUXE OIL after blowdrying. Reapply as needed.

7. ILLUMINATES: creates beautiful shine. For ultimate shine, blend 2 drops of SP LUXE OIL and apply to damp hair before styling as usual.

8. RECONDITIONS: treats hair overnight

What’s your favourite Oil?

Organic Hair Colour Perth

Organic Hair Colour Perth

What many wont realise is that we actually offer a full range of organic hair colour at Spoilt Hair Retreat and it’s our no1 source for attracting new clients.

A few years ago we introduced the Zenz Therapy Alternative Colour to our salon. I know what your thinking…..

What is Zenz Therapy Alternative Colour?

Zenz Therapy consists of professional hair products that are crafted with the purest raw materials from nature. NO synthetic agents, colours, parabens or perfumes. Zenz stand for clean, organic and sustainable sources. Just beauty as nature intended.

Organic hair colour perth

Is it as good as regular hair colour?

There is a strong stigma surrounding organic hair colours and whether or not they are “as good” as the more mainstream brands. 95% of the time they absolutely are on par however where they might lag behind just a little is :

  • Extreme fashion colours –   Although there is a variety of fashion tones it is difficult to achieve really flurescent and pastel tones.
  • Grey coverage – sometimes, rarely, if you have super super white & very resistant greys it may be hard to get full coverage. This being said i have many clients with up to 70% grey hair that get fantastic results.
  • Blondes – I find the blonde range in the organics to produce absolutely beautiful shades. The bleach is also pretty great, its anyone wanting that in between stage where you are lightest blonde without using a bleach. That can be tricky.

Can you colour the hair when pregnant?

This is 100% a personal choice however using the organic hair colours are a fantastic alternative should you have any concerns.

Want to see some of our results?

Pictures speak volumes i think. Here is some of our work using the organic colours.

So what do our clients think of our organic hair colours?

We are blown away with how rapidly the organic range is growing within our salon. Our regular clients who have made the switch love it and haven’t looked back & new clients are being drawn to us every day as a result of positive feedback.

So i’ve just given you a little taster of info, call the salon on 93837060 to hear more.

The Treatment Frizzy Hair Can’t Live Without

April 19, 2016

The treatment frizzy hair cant live without

Frizzy, curly or unruly hair. The struggle is real. You’ll do  just about anything to minimise the stress around taming the fury beast but lucky there’s a solution. I give you the ……..

….Bhave Smoothing  Keratin Treatment.

The treatment frizzy hair cant live withou

Keratin treatments have been a battle for my salon over the years with more battles lost than won, but lets not go there. It’s in the past, time to move forward and thanks to this amazing treatment we can.

I know what your thinking.

What does it do?

The Bhave Smoothing Keratin Treatment makes hair easy to manage, so anyone who struggles with frizz or has curly and difficult to manage hair is a good candidate.

Does it straighten the hair?

No. But i will relax the hair so curls will get looser. Some people may find they can ‘wash & go’ whereas others will have to add some heat to their hair in order to get a smoother result.

Is it permenant?

No. The treatment usually lasts up to 3 months. Using the recommended Bhave products at home will enhance the longevity of the treatment. I also find the more you have it done, the longer it lasts.

Can it go on coloured hair?

YES. However we usually recommend colouring your hair 2 washes AFTER having the treatment as it can be known to alter the colour of your hair. Definitely consult with your stylist BEFORE having your treatment done.

How much does it cost?

At Spoilt Hair Retreat, my fabulous Perth hair salon, we charge $249 – $349 which includes the take home Bhave Shampoo & Conditioner valued at $70.

the treatment frizzy hair cant live without

Will it mean i no longer have to style my hair?

Some people will be lucky enough to be able to wash and wear after having the Bhave Keratin Smoothing Treatment but most will require some styling. It will just make this process a lot quicker and easier.

Have you had a treatment that made your hair more manageable?

xx

10 Fine Hair Solutions

April 7, 2016

10 Fine Hair Solutions

How frustrating is it having super fine hair? I’ve gotta be honest i don’t personally have this problem, i have a mountain of hair #sorrynotsorry which i love so i feel for those with 10 strands on their head and i care, i really do, hence why i am here to offer

10 fine hair solutions.

Usually i can’t personally relate to fine hair products but i recently accidentally used this, and it made my hair MASSIVE! So fine hair babes, first on your shopping list:

1. Moroccan Oil Volume Shampoo:

OH……MY………GOD!!! I accidentally washed my hair with this and i could not figure out why my hair was so huge. Huger than normal i mean. WOW if you are after volume you must try this.

10 Fine Hair Solutions

2. Moroccan Oil Volume Conditioner

Same deal, i backed up my accidental shampoo experience with this conditioner. A lot of fine hair peeps struggle to find a rinse out conditioner that doesn’t weigh your hair down. Well look no further, i found it.

Best of all, Moroccan Oil products are Paraben Free.

3. The perfect hair cut for fine hair:

To layer or not to layer? It’s a 50/50 debate because some people like the shape or the body that a little bit of layering can offer but it really depends on just how fine your hair is and the length. Super fine hair i would avoid laying and go for a blunt cut to make look thicker. Shorter styles and those who consider themselves medium-fine can get away with some soft layers. A bit of texture can make it look like you have more hair than you actually do when done right.

10 Fine Hair Solutions

4. The perfect colour for fine hair:

If having fine hair is your biggest problem then avoid going too light with your colour. Blonde tones will make it look thinner, not to mention your hair is more fragile when it’s fine so you really can’t afford to lose any more so i would recommend avoiding high levels or peroxide and bleach. Stick to all over colours the add richness, depth and shine.

5. How often should you wash fine hair?

Like having fine hair isn’t hard enough it usually gets oily a lot quicker too. Washing your hair frequently will increase the amount of hair you shed so if possible try avoid washing your hair every day. Using the correct shampoo  & conditioner will assist you with this.

6. Another amazing fine hair shampoo:

Ok so you definately need volume shampoos or clarifying shampoos. Clarifying shampoo’s cleanse the hair from dirt and oil, hence drying it out and preventing rapid oil build up. I recommend:

Sebastian Volupt Shampoo:

The cushion particle technology is far superior for adding volume that doesn’t leave your hair feeling coarse to the touch or turning your hair into a hard, immovable layer. Cushion particle technology binds two micro-particles to the surface of your hair, raising the cuticles of the hair and roughing it up for tons of volume that is touchable and soft!

The Spoilt Stylist 10 Fine Hair Solutions

7. What? A fine hair mask?:

Most people associate a mask with thick or dry hair. But guess what, this one’s specifically for fine hair

Wella SP Volumize Mask:

Strengthens and stabilises fine and fragile hair to improve volume and body.

This virtually weightless intensive treatment is formulated with Bamboo Extracts and key nutrients to restructure and nourish fine and limp hair.

10 Fine Hair Solutions

8. Waves = Volume

Seriously do yourself a favour and learn to throw a few curls or a light wave in your hair. Good news is messy is in so it doesn’t matter if your not that skilled at styling. Also great for 2nd day dirty hair if to avoid every day shampooing.

10 Fine Hair Solutions

9. Dust it

This styling product is the bomb. You just tease your hair at the roots, sprinkle a little in, rub it in and BOOM! Instant volume that lasts all day.

10 Fine Hair Solutions

10. Dry Shampoo

For those who have not yet discovered dry shampoo, where the hell have you been??? But seriously this is a great way of getting a day off between proper shampoo’s. You just spray it into your hair dry and off you go. It kinda dries it out, a bit like  talcum powder for your hair. There are hundreds on the market but i like Rockstar Dry Shampoo because  it comes with a light hair/ dark hair option.

10 Fine Hair Solutions

Any other fine hair secrets don’t be selfish, share share share!

5 Reason’s Why Your Hair Is Falling Out

March 29, 2016

This would have to be the most frequently asked question in my Perth hair salon; why is my hair falling out?

So exhale if this is happening to you because it is SO common & it usually can be explained by one of these, if this doesn’t give you the answer you seek talk to your GP.

5 Reason’s Why Your Hair Is Falling Out

1. Change of diet?

5 reason's why your hair is falling out

I once had a client quit coffee after years of drinking several cups every day and half her hair fell out as a result. I regularly see woman trying a new diet, removing carbs or detoxing that also notice huge hair loss.

Why does this happen? I have no idea but my theory is it’s the body’s way of ridding itself of the unwanted toxins or it’s the shock to the system of a such a rapid change. But i’m a hairdresser not a Dr.

2. Medication

Changed your medication or started on something new? Even introducing a new vitamin on a daily basis can cause hair loss.

What can you do about this? Well unless your taking your medication for life threatening illness the hair is more important right? Just kidding! 95% of the time once you’ve finished your intial shedding it will slow down and usually stop altogether and will grow back.

3. Just had a baby?

This would have to be the most frequently asked question in my Perth hair salon; why is my hair falling out?

Yep, approx 3 months after giving birth just when you thought all the pregnancy body weirdness was over your hair will start falling out. By the handful. You will feel like your going bald.

But good news; it will stop. EVENTUALLY! Then you’ll have the fun experience of having it all grow back.

4. Stress

This is the most obvious but it’s def true. If your under pressure or you’ve experienced a major life event your hair will remind you to take some time out.

5 reason's why your hair is falling out

5. It’s just that time of year?

Yep i firmly believe there are a few times of year when the season’s change that we all just shed more hair than usual. Exactly when this happens i have never bothered to pin down but after 16 years of hair dressing it’s a fact.

How to stop your hair falling out?

Stopping the hair loss is tricky, but these 2 products will certainly assist in speeding up the growing back of the hair:

  1. Swisse Ultiboost Skin, Hair & Nails – a vitamin that can be purchased from almost every chemist these days. Unlikely it will stop it falling out, it may slow it down but it sure makes it grow back faster.
  2. Revita Hair Stimulating Shampoo – A cutting edge shampoo that stimulates the growth of new hair.

Have you experienced hair loss from any other reason?

Behind The Scenes Of a Swimwear Shoot

March 8, 2016

Some people think that hairdressing is just about cutting hair and gossiping but thats not true, there’s way more to it. Sometimes we get to attend photo shoots and touch sexy models too.

My job has allowed me the privilege of befriending two very talented Perth swimwear designers; Ela & Jackson who recently invited Spoilt to style the hair for their latest collection. This shoot was too smoking hot not to share with you.

Being serious for just a second, opportunities like this are not only fabulous because we get to play with pretty ladies, but we get to interact with some serious local talent too. And since i am a huge advocate for supporting Perth local businesses why not use this platform to share the love.

Introducing Perth model Holly Young:

The Spoilt Stylist Behind The Scenes Of a Swimwear Shoot

https://www.instagram.com/hollzyoung/

No comment required, this chick is freakin hot but that aside what a superstar model. A whole day in a pool and not once does she look wrinkly and freezing. Jealous.com.

I know what your thinking, how do i get her phone number why did they need a hairdresser for this? Believe it or not our lovely stylist Naomi Maley spent a good half hour combing a tone of product through to create this “wet look” hair do. For those of you looking to create this at home you’ll need 1 x bottle of Sebastian Potion 9 cream + 1 x Sebastian Texturizer Spray + 1 x wide tooth comb.  Plus a heap of chlorine to remove it from your pool after.

Behind The Scenes Of a Swimwear Shoot

make up by https://www.instagram.com/taylahjacksonmua/

Now i have to confess we can’t take credit for the make up on this, only the hair. Although we would love to because Perth make up artist Taylah Jackson “nailed it” with her smokey eye skills. I thought Holly couldn’t possibly get any hotter but Taylah sure showed me. WOW! P.S – Naomi you did an amaze job on the locks in this pic too.

Behind The Scenes Of a Swimwear Shoot

By now your probably wondering, who’s the man behind the camera? Well the men behind the camera are Perth photographers Dylan & Benjamin from https://www.instagram.com/b.rex_/ who did an amazing job of these incredible images. Well done guys, i was blown away impressed.

Lastly my 2 favourite babes Ela & Jackson. Congrats on the new collection which sorry peeps, is coming soon so stay tuned at https://www.instagram.com/elaandjackson/. Thank you for inviting us to participate in this super fun project.
