Blogging is not my business it is FOR my business. Well it was suppose to be anyway.
It has been easy to get lost in the fabulous world of blogging. Fashionista’s, foodies, hipster travellers & funny mummies, who wouldn’t? Hence for the longest time i’ve been in the midst of an identity crisis, wandering deeper down the rabbit burrow by the allure of hip social media sensations. It has been easy to forget why i am here.
My rewards from blogging are not obvious, you only need to look at my Facebook and Instagram to see i don’t exactly have thousands of followers. What i’ve come to realise is being popular on social media is not the only ingredient for a successful small business.
What started out as a marketing tool for my business quickly led to one of my greatest love affairs of all time. Yes i quickly fell in love with writing but what happened to my business when i started blogging was greater than this; Google fell in love with me.
Because i started out talking about the sort of things i thought my target market might google when looking for a Perth hair salon, Google started recognising my content aligned with this and i became super popular in the search engines (a total fluke i admit).
So yeah, my plan worked. Blogging for my business is a huge success and in 3 years since its inception my sales have increased 40% and today my blog is the no 1 source driving new clients to my salon.
At first i only talked about topic’s my clients might be interested in such as latest products & trends etc. To be honest these are the things i enjoy writing about the least but are essential for keeping the romance between google and my business alive.
Over time i’ve evolved and begun to utilise blogging as an outlet to share my
bat shit crazy humorous life and more worthy interests such as small business solutions and ideas. Again it’s been easy to get lost in the things i love and my “why”. Sticking to a routine has never been my style.
So although i’m not exactly an internet sensation there’s no bigger advocate on blogging for your business than me. Because here’s
What happened when i started blogging for my business:
- Google fell in love with me
- Profits increased over 40%
- I established a brand people could trust
- I built a community
- I found a way to communicate with my community
So because i’m prone to losing my way, here’s a little video on my “why”.

I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to Pro Blogger, #PBEvent on the Gold Coast this weekend to find out what the next chapter of “blogging for my business” holds for me.
