Layage, Balayage, Ombre..…..
As much as I & I’m sure all hairdressers in the world are getting a real kick out of the recent surge in concocting trendy names for your hairstyles, its getting out of hand and i think it needs to stop.
Honestly I am dying to know where this obsessive need to find labels for every single different and exactly the same hair colouring technique come from? Must be a Gen Y thing? Or the burning desire to start something that’s #trending.
For example these images are “supposedly” Layage:
These images are “supposedly” Balayage:
See any difference? No, that because Layage, Balayage, Ombre ….. it’s all the bloody same!!!
All three are just a fancy way of describing a free hand technique of applying colour to the hair.
Really it’s just confusing to both client and hairdresser and I am so tired of seeing the humiliation in my clients face as they fumble out these ridiculous titles & then ask “am I saying it right? Is that what its called?”.
Or even worse, this is happening:
Client: ” Oh i loved the Balayage you did last time but i was thinking this time id like to try the Layage.”
Me: “oke doke, same again it is”.
Client: “Ummm no i want the Layage.”
……you see my point.
I would like to alleviate salon chair anxiety for my clients by saying that if you would like you hair darker on the roots with lighter pieces on the ends all you need to say is precisely JUST THAT. Forget the fancy names they are STUPID!
Bringing in a picture of the colour you want is also a great way to communicate to your hairdresser.
THAT IS ALL.
