So you’re in the salon getting your colour washed out and your stylist leans down and whispers in your ear “would you like a treatment?” and I know what your thinking, “what the hell’s a treatment?” This is probably followed by a panic attack over wondering if this is another secret ploy by your stylist to add another fifty bucks onto your tab????
So I’d like to take this moment to clear up this basin dance that could potentially be sabotaging salon experiences everywhere….. or maybe this will only clear it up for our salon, either way. So….
What is a treatment? –
Well they come in all shapes and sizes, some you can purchase to take home such as the Wella SP Luxe Oil Keratin Restore Mask, my personal favourite, retails at approx $36.
An in-salon treatment, the one we whisper in your ear about, in my salon because yes I too suspect some salons have a tub of cheap crap behind the basin they’re pimping out as top shelf secret lotion too, but in MY salon an in-salon treatment is something you can’t do yourself at home as we are forbidden by the suppliers to sell these products. They are an intensive treatment that come with a variety of purposes such as:
intense repair for extremely damaged hair
These products are more concentrated than off the shelf products, therefore better and usually will last for multiple shampoos some boasting of up to 7.
How much does a treatment cost? –
At Spoilt Hair Retreat there’s no need to be afraid we charge a mere $15 for a 5 minute treatment at the basin. For the fancy 30 minute version with a massage at your seat it’s $35. Be warned; a lot of salons will charge $35-$50 for at the basin treatments.
Is it a ploy to sneak more $$ on your bill?- NO! From our perspective we feel we walk a very fine line between educating/offering a professional service and coming across as blood thirsty con artists.
Most of our clients want to know what they need to do to maintain their hair and keep it in great shape. I mean you spend a lot of money coming to a salon to have it styled so why not keep it that way when you leave right?
So I’d like to throw it out there? Do you love or hate being educated on hair products when you’re in the salon?
